Standard Penetration Test (SPT)
Standard Penetration Test (SPT) is a dynamic in-situ test on the soil, which is designed to better assess properties in Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering.
In this test, a thick-walled sampler tube is used, with an outside diameter of 50.8 mm and an inside diameter of 35 mm and a length of 650 mm. The sample-driven at the bottom of the borehole with the help of a hammer forward & reverse with 63.5 kg (140 lbs) weight and height of fall of 760 mm (30 inches), first the sampler tube 15 cm (6 inches) driven into the ground with the help of hammer And then the number of blows for the second and third 15 Cm will be calculated and recorded The total number of blows required to penetrate 15 cm of the second and third is called "standard penetration resistance" or "N-Value".
